Treadmill in basement causing vibration

What are some ways I can mitigate the vibration the treadmill is causing? The floor has rubber flooring and I added extra padding under the treadmill legs. Will jacks on the joists the treadmill sits on help? The floor (OSB and then rolled rubber) is on engineered wood joists. Any other ideas?

So your basement floor isn't concrete?

No, it has a crawl space under it.

Interesting. Not sure I've heard of a basement that had a crawl space as well.

Regardless, I'm not much help other than to say that my 2 thoughts would be to either try to isolate the section of floor that the treadmill is on (which may be prohibitively expensive), or, since you have a crawl space, do what you can to really beef up the floor in that area (additional floor joists, additional cross bracing, additional subfloor sheeting, etc.).

I think the crawl space under the basement is pretty common in Colorado or it is in our neighborhood.

I got some good feedback on another board. They recommended adding 2x4s across the joists the length of the floor and tying the joists near the treadmill with pier pads. We'll see.

A picture is worth a thousand words but
what is the joist clear span
joist spacing
type of joists, e.g. SYP S-P-F, etc & grade #2
weight of you + TMill
more detailed description of vibration

then I might be enabled to run some calculations
since you suspect joists might be overloaded (by posting a lag-col/jack)

the basement floor is solid enough reinf. concrete to support floor joists above is assumed

You might also ask your other board if these 2x4 solutions are trying to serve as "strong-backs"
to see where all that thinking was going ... then we can discuss proper strong-backs, the pros/cons & why the sea is boiling hot and ....
Ten words or less ... a goal unattainable

I'll grab some pictures and measurements this weekend

I believe there are also flooring finish options that might mitigate vibration (sports flooring).

But beefing up the support of the floor is the best bet.

You might try creating piers or pedestals from 4x4 posts and allowing those to rest on pier pads. Maybe that's what you were describing in your post from the other forum. Curious how a sand bed could aid in vibration dampening as well.

Treadmill problems generally solve themselves in short order. In about a year you'll notice that the treadmill hasn't made a single sound in 5 months.

Crawl spaces under basement were very common in Oregon too. I ended up putting my treadmill in a corner where it was close to foundation on 2 sides. I build my basement floor 12" on center though because I knew we'd be bouncing balls on it. Another option in addition to the 2x4 + pier pad is to fill the space between joists with spray foam. No idea if that'd work for long term but it was an idea a contractor gave me to make a ball bounce more consistently

My wife just got second place in her age group at the Pikes Peak Marathon. We use this thing.

I'm along a wall, but not fully in a corner, if the added bracing doesn't help, I might relocate to the corner.
