Leave house with kitchen sink frozen?

San Antonio - We were supposed to leave for Houston for a week this morning. We left the kitchen sink dripping overnight but this morning there's no flow. Every other faucet in the house is working fine. I was considering turning off the water at the street, draining the pipes from the other faucets, water heater to vacation mode and leaving. Is that safe?

That's what I would do.

Definitely turn the water off unless you can thaw that pipe and verify it is not broken. If it's broken and you leave the water on you're going to come back to a flooded house.

My guess is the supply line to the kitchen sink runs along a north wall? I have seen that in other houses. Like the others said, your plan is good. If it thaws while you are gone, you could have a big leak in the wall or elsewhere that spews water for days until you get back.

UPDATE: got home and no leaks! But now I have a different problem.

I went to relight the pilot on the water heater, but I can't get it to light (and don't even get a visible spark through the viewport). Wire connections seem ok I think, but I haven't tested for electrical connectivity. It's an AO Smith Proline gas water heater with Honeywell gas valve. The parts are under warranty but won't arrive for a week or so (and it's unclear exactly what's broken). Until then, it's cold showers. Should I just call a plumber, or is there more troubleshooting I can do?

May be a dumb question but I had a similar issue where I couldn't see the pilot thru the window. I held down the pilot and clicked igniter 10 times, kept the pilot depressed like 15 secs and then turned on and I could hear it flip on. Just curious if you tried clicking it over to on without seeing it.

Yeah, I had to do that with one of our heaters in 21. It finally lit but took forever!

Another update: I am an idiot!

The wire running from the ignition switch to the igniter had been disconnected.

Three engineering degrees apparently did not qualify me to look for loose wires…lol

Thanks all!
