Bought Peterson Real Fyre logs to replace the ones we currently have. I open the box and it says to only use with Real Fyre burners. Is this just a ploy to buy their burners? Why would my current burners not suffice? The gas fireplace has a vent if that matters.

To be safe I would switch out the burner. Found this on hansenwholesale.com

"Gas fireplaces are designed to be burned in a very controlled manner, and each model is different depending on how they were designed. Using logs other than those supplied with the fireplace can cause it to overheat or burn uncleanly...resulting in the production of soot and other potentially toxic byproducts such as Carbon Monoxide. This can create a very unsafe condition."
