I need a weld made to hold down a track for a security gate. It should be extremely short and simple for anyone with the tools. I checked task rabbit, but didn't find anyone who could do welds. Anyone know someone that will come out for a 3 inch weld and not charge an arm and a leg?

Just do it yourself if its a small simple weld. Mig welding is very easy.

Where in Houston? Do you have a 220 plug within 75' of the weld?

I took a welding class for fun from these guys.

They are pretty laid back. I bet if you gave them a call and just mentioned what you needed and paid in cash, they'd do it. Much like and fab shop but some of the bigger ones may not like the disruption. This couple deals with the general public. They use to sell furniture but they are focusing on their more profitable business.

Anyone done a weld repair on cast iron? I've heard it's more complicated.

One of the cast iron grates for my stove top cracked through and I'd like to get repaired.

It's pretty complicated. The high carbon in cast iron causes the weld to crack. You need to pre-heat and probably bake it afterwards. A casual welder or fabricator can't handle it.
