Aluminum or wrought iron? HOA will not allow a new chain link fence and I need self closing/self latching gates.

In Houston - Any recommended contractors or estimated cost per LF #s?

All of the chain link fences I've put up were some kind of galvanized steel. Never seen one made out of those two materials.

I don't think he's going back with chain link. Going with an alternative fence and wants opinions on aluminum v wrought iron.

Aluminum

PRO
  • Should come with some sort of lifetime warranty
  • Less expensive than steel/iron
CON
  • More malleable and can be deformed more easily if abused

Iron

PRO
  • Classic look
  • Sturdy, solid product
  • CON
  • Won't last forever
  • More expensive than Aluminum

  • Warning a good residential steel/iron product should come with a 10+ (likely 20) year warranty. There is a lot of cheap, cheap steel product out there that comes with only a 1-year warranty that contractors use (tyipcally on new construction).

    Fences should be like bikinis.

Just enough to hold in the goods without spoiling the view.
