I have a pretty delipidated fence in my backyard that previous owner installed years ago.

its horizontal style fence that I hate and want to switch to traditional vertical pickets.

Its has galvanized fence posts that are in good shape but they are painted.

Is using cedar or redwood worth it or should i save the cash and do treated pine?

Any tricks to get the paint off the existing fence posts?

Should i buy a nail gun or use screws instead?

Up to you on board choice. Depends on how long you'll be there I guess. Cedar doesn't need as much maintenance.

Removing paint depends on the paint. A paint removing disc would probably work, though mechanically removing might remove some of the galvanized finish underneath.

Screws. Nails are cheaper and faster but will inevitably back out.
