Looking for suggestions on repairing this. Recently bought house and noticed this gem at the bottom of the bathtub. Not sure what the material is but it's soft at this point. Above it is tile grout. I was planning to caulk around the grout/shower edge when I noticed it.

Obviously remove the material but then what would you do? Not wanting to go on a fishing expedition for other problems really.

Looks like just a tiny piece of MDF (I'm guessing) baseboard between the casing and the side of the tub. Take it out and just paint it if it won't bother you that it'll likely have a bit of Sheetrock damage and no texture.

Then tell whomever is using the tub to keep the water in the tub.

Replace with new baseboard trim and caulk upper and lower. Easy.
