Our kitchen sink is a three-hole sink. It's backing up into the two side basins and the washing machine line has water coming out of the wall, too. I opened the clean out and everything drains.

This seems to happen once a year, we call the plumber and he gets it fixed.

The house was built in 1985 and we don't always scrape our plates off in the trash, but use the disposal.

Is this normal?

Where is the clean out that you opened?

Did it drain out of the clean out or drain normally?

Do you have any idea what the plumber usually does? Rotoroot it?

We have a 1960's house and always scrape our plates. Our drain line has never clogged at any house we have ever owned.

If tree roots that is another issue.

I'm not sure I follow but it sounds like you are suing water is backing up but if you open the clean out, everything seems to work ok?

If so, that sounds like a vent issue.

Well, everything from the house to the clean out seems in order. What's from there to wherever it goes? Sounds like you got a bad pipe joint and a root problem.

Did they mention tree roots?

Have they ever run a camera down to see what is causing the problem?

Sounds like you have got a clog at the wye where the drain ties into the main line


Call someone with a sewer Jetter to clean it
