Gurus of Texags!

Best way to fix a towel rack that has been pulled partially out of the wall.

No studs behind either side.

A toggle bolt would be your strongest option if the drywall isn't too messed up behind it.

+1 on toggle bolt.

However, if you really want to fix the **** out of it, cut out the sheetrock, put 2x4 blocking between the studs at the towel bar height, put a new piece of sheetrock in, tape, float, texture, and paint. You could almost do pull ups on it.

ETA I did this when we moved into our house because the previous owner precariously attached a sink/cabinet to the wall and couldn't find a stud to do it with. The way the sink and cabinet are made, the sink would pull off and fall over if not anchored to the wall. I cut out a 1'x2' section of drywall, added a 2x6 between the studs, and haired taped, floated, textured, and painted the patch. It was surprisingly easy and I've been doing my own drywall ever since. If you have no experience, don't let it scare you.

Remove drywall, install blocking, hang whatever kind of towel bar you want!

A toggle will work for a little while, but you have two real options.

1. Rip open the wall and add blocking.
2. Put a 1x4 on the wall attached to whatever studs you can find. Paint it to match the trim and install towel bar. I would use the router to add a nice edge as well.

We had the second option in our old house and really liked it, especially with young kids. A lot sturdier for sure and was still a fairly clean look.

You could replace it with something like this that I made for our master bathroom!

I like that but it would need to be the very contemporary version!

Son pulled towel rack out of wall very similarly to what you see, I'm going to go with option 2 presented earlier, easier than texture and just requires paint

Where did you get the wood and hooks for your towel rack?? I'm thinking I could use something like this in my garage for my outdoor hat collection.

Just used a regular 1x4 and rough sanded the edges to get the look you see and then stained it. The racks, my wife found when she owned an antique shop few years ago.

Process of remodeling bathrooms and ran across the son's bathroom. Where I anchored that sucker down. I got tired of the hanging on it like a pull up bar. Now he is 16 got to take it down and fix it. Good times. When they were little the two of them would hang from that thing...

Mr Dubi built one similar to yours and the towel rack is being mounted as I type.

Screwed into the stud in the middle.
