The plug in for my stove is too high. The part of my oven that has clearance for the plug is at 8.5" tall and the top of the plug sits about 12.5" tall. I took off the face plate and looked around. The plug is sitting on top of a 2x4 so I'm not sure I can move it down any further. Could I cut the back plate of the stove to make clearance for it? Any solutions are helpful.

You could, not sure you should. If it's a new stove, I'm pretty sure that would void your warranty.

Is this a range or a built in oven ?

Stovetop or range? Ranges usually have a terminal board behind a panel with 3 or 4 screws (depending on model) where you can screw in a power cable. Buy a power cord that has the same plug patter with the correct cable.

Its an easy job. Post a pic of the plug and stove (incl model #) and I am sure the board can walk you through the repair.
