Could be a combination of the two.

Is your AC drain line backing up?

If you can see where your AC line connects to your sink drain put a bucket under it and disconnect it to see if there's a "plug o gunk".

This. Grab a bucket and some tools and tear it apart. Your looking at a hose and a p-trap assembly. It's a 20 min job to pull it out, clean/ check and reassemble.

They both drain into the same line eventually so;

1: Start at sink. Pull sink stopper and check for hair/gunk on the bottom of the stopper or down the pipe making the sink drain slow. Remove any and check to see if sink drains OK now.

2. If none and you aren't sure when the last time the trap was checked/cleaned then with the appropriate container underneath take apart the trap and check. Clean if anything there, re-assemble and check sink draining again. If still not draining well, it is most likely somewhere after the trap which tends to be where the AC drain line and the sink drain line tie together or farther.

3. Move up to the AC condensate drain. If you are pretty sure it hasn't had a yearly shot of cleaner put into it, then you can try that using your preferred cleaner/buster product. It the previous owner hadn't done it for years then it could be a pretty nasty mix of gunk that still does allow some water by but makes the sink drain slow. Depending on what you read online you can start with drain cleaner down the AC condensate drain or "other stronger but more hazardous" options.

4. At that point if it isn't draining you can try a long drain snake from both the sink trap and the AC condensate drain or call a plumber who has the tools, etc. to take care of something that is pretty bad farther down the pipe after the two drains meet.

wife primarily uses that sink, but assured me no reason any of her glorious long hair would go down the drain.

spoiler alert: it does

cleared that out and now it drains fine again

thanks for the advice!
