I purchased a house, built in 1979, and found this old bell in my garage (which is behind the house). It doesn't appear to be connected to the only doorbell this house is, which is at the front door, so I'm hoping one of you recognizes what it might be/have been for.

The previous owner so who lived here for 7 years, had no idea. It doesn't have a brand name on it, and it's not abundantly clear if the wiring is connected to anything's unless I take it off the wall, which I will likely eventually do.

Do any of you have any idea why a bell of this kind would be in the garage?

Could have been a bell connected to the phone line, and rang, when the house phone rang. I believe my parents house I grew up in the 80's had this setup in our garage.

Reposted the pictures for you. I have something similar in my garage that I am equally as lost about. I guess it could be the landline telephone ringer, as htownag99 mentioned, but I'll never know, as I don't intend on ever owning one.

We've always had bells/ringers in the shop sections of our barns to let us know when the office landline was ringing.

Looks like a remote control mosquito killer. Very popular before the bug zappers came out.
