is it worth the $30 to get the brushless one? It would be used on odd jobs around the house......trying to replace the one my old man has and this smaller design has me intrigued.

For small jobs around the house the brushless shouldn't make much of a difference.

For $30 I'd get the brushless in a heartbeat. When your son gets it, and possibly his son, it will still be working like a charm.

This is a cordless tool. It's disposable.

Go with the cheap corded model from harbor freight. Mine has served me well, and iirc I got it for like $20 total.
