I'm going to weld my outdoor kitchen frame myself since I already have a welder and fab equipment. Will be an L-Shape with the longest section being 10'x32". Would 1" -16GA steel tubing be sufficient for strength?

What are you going to skin it with?

I used 18 gauge with 2" thick concrete countertops and natural thin stone veneer with absolutely no problems.

Cement board skin then overlaid with airstone. Concrete countertops on top.

I think 16 gauge would be overkill for that. You could do 18 no problem. I've got 1000 lbs of concrete countertop and 1,400 lbs of stone on mine. I can stand and jump on top no issues.

16GA is a bit easier to weld for me since I'm using flux core or I'd try 18. Cost isn't much different as well. Glad to know 16 will hold up.
