Most of what I've read says avoid it from Feb 1 through July 1. Does that hold this year given the cold weather, or any experts here think pushing it back to March 1 is safe?

And regardless of that answer, should it be fine to trim other species regardless of the time?

TIA.

Here is an article dated Jan 2018 from Neil Sperry:

Do it now! And immediately paint every cut.

Where do you get Pruning Paint?

I heavily trimmed our trees in early January during a significant cold snap! I didn't paint the cuts. Any thoughts?

Do you need to paint over every little area you trim? Even the little pinkie-finger (or smaller) shooters that grow in?

If its on the base of the tree I will paint it.......if its elsewhere, I only paint it if its bigger that what you could cut with little pruning shears.

Thank you. I'm going to do what I can this weekend, and whatever doesn't get addressed now waits until later this year. Online advice seems to vary from late July or November-ish being safe to start pruning again.

I trimmed off one limb back in January, but didn't paint. Should I try and cut it more flush and paint over the fresh cut, or just paint?

Sorry folks, but I think there are some bad suggestions/advice - especially all saying to use a pruning sealant. Your much better off not using it if you know how to prune correctly. A couple good sites with info are:

True if Oak Wilt is not involved. Otherwise you paint to keep the insect from infecting the tree.
