I need a short piece of 14/3 sheathed wire for a project I'm working on. It's the kind that's sheathed and ready to go...like extension cord wire. Anyway, I figured it would be pretty cheap if I bought it from my electrical supply. Turns out it's about .94 a foot! So, I did what everyone does when they need it cheaper...i went to the box store....there it is....a whole roll.... .70 a foot!
Then I got to thinking, there is not way extension cords cost that much. Calcuating it out, I can buy a 14ga extension cord...50 feet for about 20 bucks. Why is that?
I mean...Im buying extension cord, cutting it to length and it already has a plug on the end....I buy another plug end and now I have a cord for my project, plus a 40' extension cord.
Is this price discrepancy just a function of demand? 14ga wire is 14ga wire....its all copper stranded....what gives?
