I am trying to keep my home and walkway a little more contemporary and I need plants along my walk way according to my HOA...

I have about 22' sidewalk to my door and the side ground area is a max of 13.5 inches wide. This is in a townhome community so the area receives about 70% shade through the day.

I had some friends say if I can put put these in containers to get some Horsetail Reed Grass since it looks like small bamboo and can keep a contemporary look.

Any other tops for plants that could do well in this small of an area?

Do you want something tall, colourful, spreading?

For something vertical, you could get a novel juncus like Big Twister
Low and spreading: lysmschia or sedum Lemon Ball. Could also do an ipomoea, but it grows like crazy, so you'll be trimming it back often.
Colorful, depending on the season: I love calibrachoa, but there are millions of shady mounding annuals that do well next to a sidewalk.
