I'm looking for advice on the best way forward with the following situation. Broke up old shower pan and found a brass drain with a lead tail piece shoved into a 1.5" hole in the concrete.

I was planning on using the Schluter Kerdi system for the rebuild but I'm concerned about the drain connection. Do I need to bust up a 12"x12" section of slab so that I can get down to the trap or is there a better solution?
1960 house with mostly PVC sanitary lines although some cast does remain. Unsure of what's under this bathroom but there is a PVC cleanout just outside the window.
