I am getting quotes to install engineered hardwood in my 50yr old house.

House has original wood floors that are shot in about half the area that I want new floors.

Problem is the builder recessed the foundation about 3/4" to allow for the current wood floor to be flush with the rest of the foundation.

I've had some installers tell me to fill in the recessed portion with concrete and others with plywood.

Anybody on here have this issue before and have reccomedations.

I think if I had the recess for regular hardwood, I would go back with regular hardwood in those areas.

Else, I would think either fill method would be fine, though a float-crete could be expensive vs plywood.

Are you installing new flooring in areas that aren't recessed? If not, what is the problem with installing the flooring in the recess? There are 3/4" engineered products.

My downstairs currently has 5 different types of flooring.

I want to remove all of it and just have engineered wood.

The recessed portion covers about half of the area.

Recessing floor is the oddest thing I have ever heard

Real wood floors last forever you only need to refinish them so I would keep those and do a 3/4 real wood product to lace in to old and then stain and finish all
