Wanting to have a deck built off my back door. Nothing fancy just wood deck with three to four steps off the back. The area is approximately 420 square foot and first quote was $4500. Does that seem high? Located west of Houston. Thanks Ags!

Sounds about right. Maybe a little high. Expect to pay around $10 a square foot. That is what all my friends in landscaping and construction have always told me.

I built a 12x20' deck with high dollar trex and spent about $6/ft on all materials, including trex handrails and structure.

Edit: after looking, $6/sf was only for decking and fascia. All in I was right around $10/sf, which included structure (4x4s, 2x8s, concrete) and trex handrails and the special deck screws.
