From the stupid question department: Is Scott's Bonus S Weed & Feed a pre-emergent? And if so, I assume that it doesn't include fertilizer and that needs to be purchased separately, right?

2nd question on Weed n Feed...

I try to follow RL's schedule and noticed a new Nitrophos Weed n Feed that I never had before. It doesn't use Atrizine but rather 2,4D.

Has this always been available and I just never noticed? If it is new, does it change some of the traditional thinking that Weed n Feed, in general, is just bad to use?

Bump for question.

Weed and Feed kills broadleaf weeds like clover, but takes a while. Also kills trees if you put too much of it within their drip line. It is not a pre emergent.

2,4-D nukes all broadleafs. Easier to buy in a concentrate and mix in a sprayer for spot applications. It is also not a pre emergent.

I know weed and feed is not the best way to go, but is the new Bayer Advanced 3 n 1 weed/feed also frowned upon? Does it contain atrazine? I Googled, but didn't find any reference. I have some live oaks and red oaks that are a few years old and don't want to harm them if possible. Just checking options, but I know the overall opinion is no weed/feed. I am in central Texas.

TIA

where can you find the products that RL mentions? Tried to find an herbicide this weekend at Lowe's and they looked like I was crazy when I asked...

Exactly why I started this thread. I have little experience with lawns and thought I could just walk into Lowe's with RL's recommendations and buy exactly what he suggests. After dissecting labels and hunting down (unhelpful) sales associates for twenty minutes, I decided to try my luck elsewhere.

If in Houston, try Quality Feed & Garden.

Ace is a good brick and mortar source.

Online you can check out DoYourOwnPestControl.com or StoneBrothers.

I dont have an Ace nearby

The RL site (http://www.randylemmon.com/lawns/fertilize.html) says:

Quote:

February-March - Use the pre-emergent controls for grassy weeds again, to prevent such weeds as Crabgrass, Goosegrass and Dallisgrass from popping up late in the spring and summer. Again, use the grassy pre-emergent like Amaze, Betasan, Balan or Treflan. There is also Barricade, Dimension or Pendimethlin as a 2-in-1 control.
nothing on the sites you mentioned have these, at least as far as I could see. I have heard Amaze is good...is that this: https://www.amazon.com/Green-Light-Amaze-Grass-Preventer/dp/B00OBX52WI It doesn't look like this is for lawns, but more for beds, or does it matter? The Lowe's website says it has this but never found it.

This seems like the only place to find this stuff for sale: http://www.domyownpestcontrol.com/princep-liquid-herbicide-p-2353.html?newcrawl&keyword=&gclid=CJGinenUs9ICFQ-PaQodiggPxA

what am I missing?

Order prodiamine powder in the 5 lb jug, and get a 10-20 gallon sprayer tank to tug behind your lawn mower. It will pay for itself the first year rather than buying large bags of drop spreader stuff.

I dont mow my own yard :/

Guess I need to look at alternative stores for these products, just something new to get into I guess.
