Couldn't resist.
The point of the article is that the jacked up loft sells clubs but it doesn't help the hackers game as short irons are for precision distance control rather than more distance.
And not all golfers suck and want more loft and distance. Especially with irons.
I can't resist either.
The point of the article was to complain about lofts and then try to justify it with nonsense about gapping Wedges at the end of your bag. It aligns with your beliefs that clubs from 30 years ago are equal to todays technology (comically incorrect). Of course you agree with him.
In reality, todays clubs are PERFECT for hacks. Strong lofts and less spin means more greens hit and/or less dramatic misses by eliminating slices/hooks. All of a sudden, a 20+ handicapper doesn't have to miss the green 20 yards short and 15 yards right because of some bizarre preconceived notion that pitching wedges MUST BE 50* or more. All of a sudden, the game is more fun because you don't have to grind to suck less.
You're worried about hackers not having "precision distance control" at the wedge end of their bag? Since when do hackers hit the ball well enough for that to matter? They just want to ball to get up in the air and make it to the green. Spin rate doesn't mean **** to hackers.
"And not all golfers suck and want more distance".
No kidding, which is why I explicitly said there should be options for better golfers. But that's a small percentage of players.
