Good suggestions. HSVA was our trip last year. Lot of fun and a whole lot of options. Looking to go bigger this year.

So far our short list (from 1 hour of research, mind you) is:
Bandon
Sand Valley
Traverse City, MI

Did Las Vegas two weeks ago with 6 guys. I worked with a small company in LV to set-up tee times, hotel and transportation. Stayed at the Aira, played TPC LV, Rio Secca and Cascata. All three were excellent but Cascata was the highlight of the trip .

Same group +2 at Streamsong in central Fl last year around the same time. In the middle of nowhere, but 3 nice courses, great hotel and okay restaurants.

Text 5 six1, two seven 1, six 78 five it you would like more info.

Big cedar lodge in Branson. Was there this summer with and only played paynes valley but thought at the time it would make a great guys trip. Good restaurants, could go fishing in the lake, I think 3 18 hole courses with another park 3 course. The bass pro shop guy that owns it moved a cabin from latrobe onto the property.

I'm using Pioneer Golf out of austin for an 11 day trip to Scotland. Happy with their work so far. Trip is in April and we've been working on it for 2 years (Covid delayed us). They do all over Europe.

Scottsdale has a great combination of golf and nightlife. Loved that trip.
Did Big Cedar was fun. Not much nightlife unless you do some shows in Branson. Not sure your age but those seem to be cut out for the olds.
Pinehurst was great. Played 9 rounds in 5 days.

I'd 2nd Palm Springs, st George and pinehurst

RTJ depending on courses. You could do Birmingham and so 2 and add ballantrae, awesome public course….parlay into pursell farms too

If you can get lucky and get a time at sweetens cove you can do mclemore club and other great north GA mountain courses. Kiawah/Charleston area. Reunion Florida, Bandon, Tahoe

probably help to know more about your group

couple of questions: 18 or 36 holes/day? all golf all the time OR like to have other activities? avg handicaps for the group? go out at night or simply have a few beers close by and in bed by 10?

I'm on year 8 of planning our trip. 8 is a good number (obviously).

Agree with all the above. Will add Kohler as a great spot as well. We added in Erin Hills which was awesome. In my mind Sand Valley is. A separate trip unless you are planning going for over a week

Isn't that the joke about Bandon? It's the closest thing the US has to true Scottish links golf, but it's much harder to get to than Scotland.

I'm in Scottsdale now. I think this place is a must every winter for any avid golfer. Courses are pristine and beautiful.

I played Troon North Monument and it was gorgeous. My only surprise was how beat up the greens were from ball marks.

Not fixing your ball mark should be a punishable offense

I think the big question is how big of golf sickos is your group?

We've done Streamsong, Scottsdale, and Pinehurst now. Streamsong and Pinehurst was all golf all day, which I prefer. Scottsdale to me is a trip where you play golf and not a golf trip.

Thanks for the great suggestions so far. Looks like we're a little late to the party for a stay-and-play resort this year - we'll have to look at a destination that has a great selection of public courses for '23 while going ahead and booking a big '24 trip.

We're 8 buddies - all class of '15 & '16. Most of the group lives in Texas. Last year was our first trip and we did Hot Springs Village purely because it was a simple way to ensure the inaugural trip actually happened. We'd be more focused on the golf over night life but wouldn't hate having more to do than a HSV retirement community.

We've discussed a few options for this year so far;
Traverse City, MI
Scottsdale, AZ
Just north of NYC
Milwaukee, WI

Any success with public courses in these areas?^ Any other recommendations given some of the group specifics?

Depends on what time of year but if it's December-Early April I would do Scottsdale. Cheap easy flights. Tons of places to stay. Tons of top notch courses. Etc. not to mention the talent running around ASU.

Stay at the Hyatt Tamaya Resort or one of the Casinos

Pinehurst. Most affordable trip for some of the best golf you'll ever play. Do a stay and play package for 2-3 nights and hit Tobacco Road on you're way out

I'm trying to plan a trip down to the Pinehurst area for a weekend this summer. I know I'll have to make two trips in order to play everything I want to play, but I'm torn on which to do first.

This trip would likely be just 2 of us, maybe 4. But probably a more serious golfer group. The other could be a less skilled group but likes to have fun.

Pinehurst (2, 4, 8, Cradle)
Tobacco Road
Pine Needles
Mid Pines
Southern Pines.

Thinking for the higher skilled group it should be Pinehurst and Tobacco Road right? Fortunately its only about a 5-6 hour drive from Maryland so maybe the agenda looks like:

Thursday AM drive
Tobacco Road Thursday PM
Friday AM - Pinehurst 4 or 8
Friday PM Cradle?
Saturday AM - Pinehurst #2
Sunday AM - Pinehurst #4 or 8
Sunday PM drive home

Is that realistic in terms of energy and pacing etc?

#2, #4, and Tobacco Road are must plays.

If you have 2 or 4 guys, I would consider skipping the craddle. My experience a couple months ago was they send out as many people as possible. We had a group of 4 and were waiting behind groups of 8+, which killed some of the fun.

mid pines and pine needles are very skippable. Southern Pines way better. I'd honestly try to hit a 2nd PH course over Mid Pines/Pine Needles. Or, run it back at Tobacco Road. It's a course that almost needs a 2nd play. Such a cool place.

I think so. I'd probably do more of PH that way you can mark that off the list. And the stay & play drops the additional price. #2 is an extra ~$200 to play last I looked.

Yeah thats about right. Including #2 at Pinehurst in July its works out to about $1500 for golf and room.

If you're staying at the Carolina, I would confirm what room you have. They are in the process (I think) of renovating all of the rooms, we were in one that hadn't been and it was very tired.

Did this exact trip in August with 8 players. Worked out great and was pretty cheap.

We stayed in this vrbo and it was perfect for our group.

We couldn't get the tee times we wanted for the dates that worked for our group at Pinehurst so we're doing Pine Needles, Mid Pines, Southern Pines and Tobacco Road instead. Was hoping with 7 months notice we'd be able to get 36 holes in on late July Saturday but nope. Next time.

Amazing value at the Pines courses. It works out to $750 per person for two nights at the mid pines hotel, and all four rounds.
