Let's put them down on the electronic paper of the internet. Here are mine:

  • Take 6 lessons
  • Have at least 52 practice sessions
  • Play at least 52 rounds
  • Get to a 12 handicap

  • Make noticeable improvement on chipping around the green
  • Establish my handicap early this year then knock down by 20% by end of year (I just started playing in August)
  • Play at least 40 rounds

Goal setting is important. But it has to be specific. What you will do and how you will do are 2 different things.

Lower handicap? How will you do it. Are you sure your practice routine will get you there?

Heres mine.

2 to 3 weight lifting sessions per week
Stretch 5 days per week
Shag bag chip (40 balls) twice a week
Simulator session twice per week 60 swings each
Play 2 to 3 rounds per week, walk at least one round.

This should lower my index. It may not.

Play 12+ rounds

Wife and i are expecting our first kid next month, so my expectations for how much i get to play this year have gone down hill. Got down to a 7 HC this past year and hoping to just get out some and enjoy it. Taking any tips in regards to staying fresh with a newborn!

* Play as many rounds this year as I have in the last 5 years (due to 3 back surgeries and a knee surgery)
* Beat my low score of 83 (and hopefully break 80 as well)

I'm 9 weeks post-op on a rotator cuff surgery. Do whatever you can to avoid the surgery, but if you can't... rip the band-aid and get it done. Weeks 0-2 were miserable, every day since has been better. I'll be cleared to chip by the end of January (if teed up), full swing with no restrictions at the end of March, and near 100% pre-tear strength by end of Summer.

I screwed mine up 15-20 years ago and have just dealt with it. Looking forward to no longer being in a ton of pain every single time I play golf, pick up my kid, throw a ball, etc.

Goals:
Slow swing speed down to consistently hit fairways, bombs are fun, but water/trees/lost balls aren't.
Play 20 non-scramble rounds and improve
Get rid of the shanks

What exercises are recommended for this sort of strengthening? Need to work on this myself.

  • Work more on my putting. 20 minutes at least five days a week (indoor putting green)
  • Bucket of balls twice a week inside 100 yards (weather permitting)
  • Get handicap 10.2 back to sub 5
  • Play 20 new courses

I'd start with core/stabilizer muscles and flexibility first. Those will help to prevent injury and may find you a few yards, then pushups and squats in reasonable numbers.

Cuss less will be the most challenging thing you will ever do on a golf course...

I need to drink and cuss less and they are generally related.

2 goals

1. Retain my green jacket from my college buddies golf weekend. (It's a $15 costume jacket from eBay)
2. Shoot even par.

Both are doable. I won the jacket under some controversy last year. I want to win it running away this year.

Break 80 4 times by playing easier courses and from the ladies, I mean forward tees, if neccessary. (14hcp)

Shot a 79 on Sunday morning, so just 3 more times.

Goal and Plan:
- No more than 16 putts per side (32 total)
- practice putting at least 30 minutes per week
- 33% GIR's
- practice 160 yds & shorter shots for 80% of any range session with deliberate yardage target and shot shape.
- 1 or fewer penalty strokes per round
- improve course management with club & shot selection & execution.

Reach goals:
- add 10 yds to driver while maintaining accuracy
- work on core strength and flexibility, probably take a few lessons on this.
- more than one round of 28 or fewer putts
- more than one round of 50% GIR

Well, I can cross break 90 off my list! Shot an 89 on Friday, 45 out, 44 in. Was ecstatic when I looked down at my scorecard after a solid par on 18. Now, I need to do it again!

I finally made the decision to ditch stiff shafts and go all X. Driver SS is around 110, and this is something that always was in the back of my mind, especially in my longer clubs. Finally put an X in my 3 wood last year and love it.

I'd like to get where I shoot in the mid 80's again. I was a 4 at Pecan Lakes when I was in Aggieland and I'm a 16 now...yikes.

That's a pretty low bar.
