To spend on a 3 day golf trip from Friday to Sunday in the fall. Thursday could be a night before to get there but would be a part of budget if stay overnight. Where would you try to stretch the money and would you travel different nights or stay at same site and day trip. What courses would you pick?? Nightlife choices as well. We are all average golfers (handicap from 10-20) and are planning this in case no college football occurs. Guys all live in Texas but one is Houston and two in DFW while I still live in CS. Can be outside of Texas but November is nice weather and not hot.

Sounds like you're driving wherever you go unless you fly with miles/points, which is a game changer.

So, you're probably limited to some of the hill country resorts or a place like lake Charles, both of which are a lot of fun.

RTJGT in Alabama would be where I would look. However, November is prime bow hunting....

If you go to RTJ I'd suggest Capitol Hill. Cheap lodging nearby(Holiday Inn Express?) 3 courses I believe. I played The Judge and whichever is the links style.

Wherever you go, since you're on a budget I think the obvious thing to do is spend as little on lodging since you're there for sleep and cleanup.

As for Texas golf you can go to one of the cities y'all are from and find 3-4 courses all relatively close to one another that are public and for in your budget. However, if you go this route you'll want to consider the players from that city and see if there's at least 1 or 2 courses they haven't played so it's more exciting to them as well.

For example: Avery Ranch, Star Ranch, TeraVista (Austin).

The only issue I'd have with RTJ would be the travel time. It's basically an all day drive... So you'd be traveling 11-13 hours both Thursday and on the way back Sunday... for 2 days of golf.

Although it's great golf and on the cheap, that amount of driving amounts to (as my Pops says) 10 pounds of **** in a 5 pound bag.

Should be able to do Horseshoe Bay easily for that price. For a quick trip Friday-Sunday, I wouldn't go too far so you can spend your time playing golf and not driving all over.

Alabama is out... too far for what we are trying to accomplish

We have done Hot Springs Village in Arkansas a few years ago as my parents retired to that area Great spot for this type of thing

Will look into Horseshoe Bay and Lake Charles...Hill Country looks best of we stay in Texas

I was going to mention Hot Springs, but I didn't know what the weather would be like in November. A few of my buddies have made that trip several times and they love it.

Wolfdancer (Bastrop-ish), Vaaler (Blanco)& Lakecliff (Spicewood) would give you a good variety of Hill Country courses. I would air bnb it around Spicewood which would make an easy drive to all the courses and will be a little more rural if that's what you're in to.

Scottsdale. We went in October one year and did it right at $1000 including flight. Two average courses and one nice one. October is a shoulder season so you can still get cheap rates. Half the courses are closed for overseed but we still had a blast and I've never played a ****ty course in Scottsdale.

Spent last weekend at Squaw Valley in Glen Rose. Played 36 on Lakes Course and 36 on Links Course. Incredible course and the service was amazing.

Hot Springs Village, AR.

Casino for gambling. Cool downtown area.

8 courses about $75 a pop. They were super cool - lots of elevation and in the trees.

Make your own trail through the Texas hill country.

Hot spring village is great. Every course I've played there was awesome with the elevation changes and trees.

I also don't hate the Tyler idea. Dad is a member at tempest and said it continues to get in better and better shape as it matures. Love that course. Pine Dunes constantly gets rave reviews on this board and the last time I played Crown Colony it was in immaculatel shape. Id throw the Links at Lands end into this group. You could swing an early morning time there and and afternoon time at Tempest if you book on the earlier side of Fall and drive fast.

Damn sure is a great trip, but I think it's a 5 or 6 day trip from Texas for it to make sense.

Edit to say we would do it in "4 days"... but the 4th day was a 3-5 hour drive to Destin, not hauling all the way back to Texas.

Yes. We took two days going. Stopped in Mobile on way there and played Magnolia Grove next morning, had lunch and then to Auburn. Played 7 rounds Monday-Friday with a guided fishing trip on Lake Martin on one day.
Really liked the Marriot resort in Opelika. Lot of Auburn alumni hanging out.

Southwest had tickets for $49 each way when I looked into it.

That would make it a lot more doable in 4 days.
