I've got a group of 8 guys that want to try and find a spot in Texas for a good stay and play option this summer. Looking for your suggestions.

Parameters:
- within a 5 hr drive of San Antonio
- good courses preferred
- accommodations don't have to be onsite
- good place to socialize after the round (water, cool bar, etc)

We've done Lajitas and considering it again. Played Horseshoe Bay many times and trying to find somewhere else.

Hoping we can do this in early July, Lord and Corona willing. Thanks

Omni Barton Creek has been recently renovated and is supposed to be excellent.

Prolly pushing your five hour radius but Pine Dunes in frankston is a great course and also has newly built rooms right off the big practice facility. I haven't seen them in person yet but pictures look awesome. However, you're very isolated at the course, which could be good or bad depending on your group.

The Woodlands Resort will probably have the most post round activities.

Vaalor Creek was my initial thought, but not sure what the OP wants for socializing in the evening/night. There is a pool on property, but nothing for "night life" .

I'm very familiar with Squaw Valley in Glen Rose. Two 18 hole courses that are very nice. I play in a 2 man blind flight tournament out there every summer, and it's awesome. Not sure if that is something you and your group would be interested in, but it's always a good time.

If you do look at Squaw Valley (Glen Rose), I'd suggest looking at places in Granbury to stay. It's on a nice big lake, and there's a lot more stuff to do at night then there is in Glen Rose. It's about a 15min drive to the course from Granbury, so not bad at all.

Thanks all. Liking the idea of Squaw Valley, Pine Dunes and Cliffs.

With regard to after hours activities Doesn't need to be downtown Scottsdale but this groups ranges from late 20s to early 30s and would enjoy a pool/body of water to let loose in. Females wouldn't hurt either.

I'd say Lake Charles.

Get you an rental house, play either the Lauberge or Golden Nugget course, night life at the casinos, or even a fishing trip on the side.

Highly recommend Pine Dunes. It was relatively inexpensive to stay on the 18th fairway. And that's enough guys to do their in house catering for a reasonable price.
Squaw Valley is another good option.

Might not be what OP is looking for but Crown Colony is another option to consider.

There's a pretty cool bar on property, and the restaurant is serviceable enough. There are a couple other neat bars in the area from what I've been told, but we didn't ever leave the property.

I have a family lake house in Granbury and we do squaw valley a lot as it is cheap and provides two good courses that all levels of golfers can play. Granbury has good restaurants and a cool courthouse square to visit too.

Thanks for all the replies. I think we are actually doing Squaw Valley and trying to get on DeCordova. Will be 8 of us up there June 11-14, 36 that Friday and Saturday.

Now trying to find an AirBnb for the posse

Decordova (and Pecan Plantation) will be difficult to get on unless a resident/member can pull some strings. I'd try and get on at Harbor Lakes, it's private too, but I'd guess "easier" to get on, plus it's in town (Granbury) and in my opinion better golf.

Revolver Brewery is a local spot to check out, but it's only open 12-3 on Saturdays, so that may be problematic.

Also, if you don't mind driving another 20ish minutes, there's a little gem of a course called SugarTree that is off the beaten path northwest of Granbury...absolutely gorgeous golf course along the Brazos.

We had 44 guys out last weekend from Longview. From what I heard, it will be their annual destination going forward (used to be Pine Dunes). They lapped the course all weekend in matching shirts and some team play.

Wanted to circle back and say that we just got back from Granbury where we played 36 on Friday and Saturday.

Friday was Squaw Valley Lakes in the morning and was the highlight of the trip. Superb course conditions and we paid $50 for a course that could go for $150+ in the larger metro areas - these may have been some of the best Bermuda greens I have ever putted on.

Friday PM was the Links course at Squaw Valley, which unfortunately had just punched their greens. Still a great layout, but stacked slightly behind the Lakes IMO.

Saturday AM was De Cordova Country Club, which was typical old school 'country club' style golf, with tree and house lined fairways. Great condition, but maybe my least favorite layout.

Saturday PM was Harbor Lakes was the newer generation of golf surrounded by master planned communities and the lake. Course conditions were not bad but probably the worst out of the 4. Fun course to play as we had a 5 man game of Wolf, the cart gal was eager (as were we to be patrons). Course a little tricked up, but I would recommend to throw it in the rotation.

All in we played 4 rounds of golf for under $200 on the weekend. Tremendous value.

Went to Stumpys Lakeside Grill for dinner two nights in a row. The name says it all. This place was great and right on Lake Granbury.

Will definitely be returning to play both Squaw Valley courses when they have all the greens back.

Thanks all of those who added in on the thread.

How are the resorts in San Antonio area right now? We are from Houston waning to play in San Antonio area late July or early August.

If its just us 4 guys then we'd like to do 3-4 rounds between Friday and Sunday. If our ladies join us, it'll most likely be 2-3 rounds centered around the resort so they can stay there while we golf.

So far we are thinking both courses at La Cantera/TPC San Antonio and add the Quarry course as the 3rd.

Backup plan might be Omni Barton Creek... the drive to Austin is less brutal then to SA lol

Edit: After looking at the resort prices for La Cantera, it might price us out. Any one have experience with Tapatio Springs lately?

thought of starting my own thread but it is very similar to this so i'll just piggyback

looking for a place in texas as well. here's our info:

changing our annual trip (this year's was going to be Kiawah, but with Covid several of us form Texas have to stay in state due to work travel requirements)

some in the group are coming from out of state and will be flying so needs to be reasonably close to airport.

we will play 5 rounds thursday through sunday. (18/36/36)

I was thinking Horseshoe Bay, but what other options do you guys recommend? or possibly, what courses would be good to add if we used Horseshoe bay as our home base?

Korn Ferry is about to play back to back weeks at the TPC, so it may be tough to get on for the next month or so.
