Injured finger

How long do you want to ignore this user?
About 2 months ago I was playing a round and shooting pretty well when I hit a 4 iron pretty fat and immediately I had a pain in my big knuckle, middle finger on my right hand (I'm right handed). I could not hit the ball worth a crap the rest of the round. I went home iced it and didn't play again for a week. Next time I played almost immediately the same knuckle hurt. I finished the round trying to adjust my grip but it was still a terrible round. This has gone on now for a while. I haven't played for a few weeks and yesterday I went and picked up a club that I had repaired and swung it three times on the range and the pain came back.

My questions are:

Has anyone experienced anything like this and how long did it take to heal?

Is there anything I can do to continue to play but maybe support the finger by taping it or changing up my grip?

Should I go to a chiropractor or something to have it looked at?

Thanks in advance.

My buddy had that bad. Every time he played he got it. Only thing that helped was stem cell shots and even those didn't last a long time.

He tried rest, ice, wrapping it up, and some other stuff but no luck.

Do you have health insurance? If yes, go to a doctor.

Yes insurance isn't a problem. The weird thing about this is it doesn't bother me at any other time. It's not like I grip a hammer or something else and the finger hurts. It's very specific to swinging a club. So I typically forget about it until I reinjure it.

I also don't like going to the doctor.

Just cut it off. It'll relieve the pain and give you a pretty cool permanent hand signal.

I have a similar issue. My pinky on the left hand (I'm right handed, so pretty much my anchor finger...) hurts extremely bad when I swing. Has been going on for the better part of 2 years I would guess. Doesn't hurt any other time besides when I play golf. I've got a couple months recently without playing but as soon as I I make my first swing on the range it's back. My only solution is to tape my pinky completely straight so that I can't use it & no stress is put on it.
Very frustrating but I've managed to work around it and just recently shot my best round ever.
Long story short.. I have no solution for you but I hope you can find relief.

I suggest you go see a sports orthopedist for the price of your copay, if you want to speed up the healing. Or since you don't like doctors, just get a bunch of leeches and have a good old fashioned bleeding.

Several years ago I hurt the knuckle in my left thumb.

After a couple of weeks it didn't bother me to do anything. Then when I tried to play golf, I felt it at the top of my swing (when all the torque anchored on that joint). I wasn't able to play for months! Eventually it went away.

No great advice for you, but I sympathize.

Tendons/ligaments are slowest to heal.

Definitely go see an orthopedist vs a chiropractor. Could be a small stress fracture...you may just not be letting it rest quite long enough.

Stay away from a Chiro for something like this, go to a hand specialist or an ortho at the very least. Hands are finicky at times so there are plenty of things that could be involved.

I've decided to take BPN's advice and go the holistic route, leeches, some essential oils, and a good full body cleanse and I should be good as new

Seriously though I have it wrapped with sports wrap and I'm trying not to use it. That doesn't work I'll go see an ortho or a specialist.
