Found this post from Billy's wife on Twitter just now. I had wondered what had happened to his game the past 18 months and this probably answered most of that.

I've always liked Billy and he gets a lot of flack for his brash style and emotion he shows on the course.

This is good stuff and very commendable for him to let her tell her story and for her to come forward and share it.

Yep. I thought it was interesting that he was encouraged, I am assuming by the professionals or at least people familiar to addiction, to compete twice while she was in rehab. He didn't want to but they were concerned about her guilt. So he shows up at Oakmont and hadn't hit a ball in weeks. Cant imagine competing like that.
