Bump for an old thread. I had the chance to play Trinity Forest recently and overall I was not a fan. The course was in fantastic shape and was actually prettier than I anticipated, but the greens are borderline unfair. The course has been open for a year and they are still rock hard to the point that I'm not sure anybody in our foursome had a ball mark to repair all day. To add to that the caddies said they were rolling a 12. The green complexes are huge, but depending on where the pin is your landing target may only be a few feet in diameter if you want a put inside of 20 feet. I'm far from a good player, but I didn't make a single put outside of five feet and had a couple of four putts if you count putts from off the green (and you're probably not chipping from anywhere near the green). All in all it was one of the more mentally taxing and frustrating rounds of golf I've ever played.
The tour pros are going to eat that course alive from tee to green if the wind isn't howling, but they are going to throw a fit on and around the greens. I also don't have any idea how they plan to accommodate a crowd on the course because there just isn't that much room off the fairways that isn't native waste area.
All in all I'm certainly glad I got to play it, and it will help me understand and appreciate what the pros do out there, but I can't imagine playing that course on a regular basis unless you are a whiz with the flat stick or a masochist.
BTW, they do have carts and golf boards for those who want them, but it's a great layout to walk if the weather allows for it. The course rates 74.8/132 from the back tees and 71.8/129 from the whites.
