We're heading up to Lake Charles this summer to stay at the Golden Nugget for my bachelor party. The plan is to go up for a weekend for gambling and hopefully some golf. I've never played or heard of any courses around there. It looks like there's two courses right there by the two casinos. GN is $129 and the other is $109. Anybody played either and is it worth it?

I'm doing what I can to keep things cheap in every part of the wedding for my groomsmen, and it feels a little wrong asking them to pay $130 on golf.

I'm not sure how old you are but just if you're in your twenties or thirties it's safe to assume you guys are going to be so wasted on the bachelor party golf is probably going to fall through anyways that's been my experience is on more than one occasion just a heads up

National Golf Club of Louisiana in Westlake, just down the road and much cheaper.

Surely twilight is cheaper right? You're prob not going to want to play too early in the day in the middle of a bachelor party.

Have not played GN's, so I've got nothin' there.

Lauberge's is pretty good. Not $110 good, but good.

Lousiana National is 15-20 mins away and I thought it was better.

I've heard people speak highly of Gray Plantation, but I've never played it.

Played Gray Plantation, Louisiana National, and LDL's course. Would recommend all three

I was in Charleston the weekend after we beat South Carolina with in Columbia for a bachelor party. Stayed out till 2 and one of my buddies left with a lady he had met that night. I assumed he was dropping out of our 9 am tee time. Lo and behold he comes staggering in at 8:15 ready to play golf looking like he hadn't slept a minute.

Played Golden Nugget back in January, course was in really good shape. If you can swallow the heavy price tag, I think y'all will enjoy it. It's an easier/fun/enjoyable resort course for any skill level of golfer. Whereas your TPC and HSB you just have trouble lurking on every hole.

I've gotten LDL for around $30 on golfnow. I enjoyed the course. Had it to myself and was in good shape. Very convenient. We stayed at the Nugget and LDL shuttle came and picked us up and brought us back

We go once or twice every year to stay at L'Auberge and play Contraband Bayou. If you're staying at the hotel golf at Contraband goes down to like $70.

It's a nice course that's fun. Nothing too challenging as I think the point is to get your confidence up heading into the tables. No one wants to gamble after getting it handed to them on golf course.

But it's in great condition, fun, and the cart girls ain't bad either.

I think the best option is playing soon after we get there on Friday so we don't have to be on any kind of schedule. Maybe we won't have drank as much yet and can enjoy golf for golf.

Their prices are all seasonal. We're going in June so it would be $99 for hotel guests.

We went to Lake Charles for a bachelor party last April. We played Friday afternoon when we got there (course was pretty open, we ended up having an 8 some because it was so open) then played Saturday morning and again that afternoon (turned into a 10 some LOL) I was a fan of Contraband Bayou and will echo the comment on the cart girls, they were not too bad at all..Part of the reason I liked CB is because of how laid back the course was, they didn't get angry we were playing an 8/10some because we played quick but also the course is fairly wide open and not heavily trafficked.

I played GN's course about 4 years or so ago. Very nice...I enjoyed it.

I always played Gray Plantation when my parents lived in LC.

Was a better course before they lost a ton of trees in Rita, but still a good value. If it is still in the shape it was $60 is a good deal for a weekend guest round.

I'm from Lake Charles and have worked or played every course in the area.

Golden Nugget and The National are the two nicest by far (along with the Country Club but it's private). The National is far cheaper and still doesn't have its new pro shop if that matters to you. Golden Nugget price goes to twilight at 1:00 and is much more affordable at that time. I personally wouldn't pay full price. They also do not have a driving range. They have a buddy deal with Lauberge to use there's if you wanna ride your cart over. They do have 2 chipping greens and a putting green for practice though.

Lauberge is an easy course to play (short, open, and wide) if you're bad at golf and to the novice it appears to be a nice course. If you know golf courses you'll quickly see it's not maintained at the level it should be and imo isn't worth the money unless you get a round under $45.

Gray Plantation is nicer than Lauberge. Fun course with good scenery off the beaten path. They have a few issues from the hurricanes still but in large is in good shape.

If you're a good golfer and don't mind an extra 40 minute drive Koasatti Pines at Coushatta Casino is on par with Golden Nugget and The National. Very nice course.

The superintendent at the Country Club is an Aggie btw. That's why they have the nicest turf in the area. Phenomenal putting greens that can make tour courses jealous.

Just giving you a hard time. I believe you played. It opened spring of 2015.

It's a tough course when the wind is blowing which is often. Their superintendent is a Miss St guy. He's good at what he does.

Well, I guess it was more like 2 years ago then....seems longer. Really liked the course though. And yes, the super had it in fantastic shape.

I have played Golden Nugget and L'Auberge both several times and I really enjoy both courses. Prices can be a little steep.

For a cheaper option, I have also played the Lake Charles municipal course several times, I believe it is called Mallard Cove, and have enjoyed it as well. Much less expensive and maybe a 10 minute drive from the casinos.

Mallard Cove is correct. Very nice clubhouse. Fun track with a very easy front 9. In good shape as far as munis go. Worth the money.

I am playing GN in a few weeks, I will report back on condition.

Louisiana National has always been good and pretty cheap, Ive play Contraband several times and it seems like the condition was hit or miss.
