This is exactly why my brother got out of the business. He was the "typical" assistant. Young, not really the "college type," had some game (serious game in my bro's case), and loved teaching. That said, he is a family man at heart and has a very serious girlfriend, which by all accounts is "the one." He knew that sun up to sun down isn't very conducive to having a wife and eventually kids, especially making very little money, so when a member at his club offered him a 9-5 sales job, he jumped at it. While the perks are good, even for assistants (he could play almost anywhere for free or a cart fee, members took him on their golf trips, free clubs, balls, shoes, clothes, etc.), it's not for everyone.
