I don't like tu and anything about them but I can only imagine what that alcohol battle is like and wish him well with said battle. The boyfriend of a friend of mine (phd, and wealthy with his own medical practice) got into meth and other opioids and he's spent the last two years homeless and bouncing back and forth between the Houston, SA and New Braunfels jails. Lost his practice, home and everything he worked for.

Sark should stop drinking then

It's been well documented that he is drinking in Austin

And he appeared hammered on the sideline of the Allen game

Pointing that out is not evil. It's reality

I've shared this many times on the General and H&F board. I'm an alcoholic in my 31st year of recovery. Sobriety date 2.26.91. if what you say is true, and I have no reason to doubt you, this is not going to end well for the man. The vast majority of sip fans will never understand why he would rather have the shot of scotch than be the head football coach at t.u. Do I hope he turns his life around and leads the sips to glory, no, but I do hope he finds the help he needs. On a personal note, AA teaches that when anyone reaches out for help, I am responsible. I can't help but wonder what I would do if he showed up at my home group.

Do you think alcohol is similar or different to say cocaine or heroine in terms of addiction? There was an expert on Joe Rogan yesterday talking about the subject but I only got to listen to a portion of the show so far.

Hope he gets the help he needs but if he gets canned for drinking again, he'll never coach again above the high school level. I know and understand that addicts don't understand that or care but maybe someone around him will get him the help he needs. The sip job was about the worst place to put someone with those tendencies. The fan base and admin have Unreasonable expectations and more money than sense.

14 years sober here. One day at a time.

I am very active in AA in Austin. I have not heard the Sark drinking stories. I have seen him twice in the last few months at noon Westlake meetings.

I hope that Sark is VERY successful in his recovery and a failure in his job.

I was homeless and begging for food on Greenville Avenue in Dallas 14 years ago. That's where alcoholism can take you.

Needless to say, I prefer my life now!

I don't know anything about addiction. I've heard it said one can be addicted to alcohol, but I have no experience with that. I am an alcoholic as defined by the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous in that if I take a drink it sets off a craving for more with a idea that this time it going to be different, Therefore I can never N E V E R have another drink the rest of my natural life.

If you'd like to discuss this further, and I hope of Aggies in recovery will, please join us Thursday and Sunday at 7 central time. We're somewhere between a formal AA meeting and an Aggie bull session.

I have friends who've battled with alcohol and other drugs. God Bless him. I really don't want to see him throw his life and opportunities away for booze or anything else. I hope he gets right or stays right and does just enough on the 40 to get a nice, juicy, fat contract and extension and then keep being just above mediocre, perennially, for a very long, sober time.

I hate tu with a passion so much that I will not even stop to help someone on the side of the road if I see a orange shirt

But if Sark knocked on my door and asked for help to get over his alcohol problem I would wear a tu shirt at our meetings

The meetings would just be me and him and I would burn every shirt afterwards but I could never let another man struggle that asked me for help just because I hate tu so much

Alcohol can be a demon. For me, it was poor - very poor judgment. I never had a physical craving, just a desire for an escape.

Best wishes to all impacted. It can be very difficult if you get the physical craving. For me, it was spiritual.

Not arguing, but curious. What does "well documented" mean?
- TexAgs rumors
- Fat Ketch or Anwar rumors
- on the news or in the papers
- friend of a friend
-other

Usually, when I think of "well documented, there is something you can read or hear via a media source.

On that note, was it ever confirmed to be sumlin on that drunk in a hotel video? I'd love for them to have to deal with some fallout from an incident like that.

Well that is actually the definition of "well documented" so you're spot on.

All addictions are very similar in neural terms. Drugs can be especially hard because your body can become physically dependent in some ways, but once you form habits and addictions for things like alcohol, sex, food, tobacco, or even benign things like brushing your teeth or coffee, they're hardwired into your brain forever. The best you can do is substitute something in.

Unlike a lot of the big issues my opinion on addiction keeps changing. And since it keeps changing I am normally less likely to comment.

I drank heavily in college but it was always social in nature. Others were drinking so I would also. About a month after I graduated from A&M it hit me that I hadn't had a drink since graduation. It was an odd moment because its not like I decided to stop drinking. But the environment was gone and so was the reason for having a drink. So that was always in my head when thinking about this topic. But its seems to me some people have genetics that play some role in this as well. Hard to be angry with someone who is wired differently on this topic.

Food, sex, pornography, and other habits do not alter your biology/physiology to where your body requires the substance/behavior to survive (with regards to food your body needing high salt, sugar, fat etc. without which you go into a dangerous withdrawal).

It is unfortunate that every activity an individual may repeatedly engage in has become an addiction, because with the disease model it has removed personal responsibility.

But not really a surprise when every aspect of human behavior is being reduced to what part of your brain lights up in a scan, which is why even you put forth addictions being similar in neural terms. That is the current paradigm.

Quote:

Conduct that was once attributed to the devil will be attributed by successive generations to a deficient or excessive phrenological bump, to an unresolved Oedipus complex, to bad conditioning, to faulty brain chemistry, to unfortunate genes, or to a part of the brain that fails to light up on fMRI scans when appropriately provoked. The illusion of understanding is like the grin of the Cheshire Cat: it is what remains when all else has disappeared.

As was said above, I hope he succeeds at defeating his personal demons and fails miserably at his job.

I may have been somewhat hasty in my response yesterday. I think an accusation like this needs some documentation.
