Good grief.

In one of the linked articles it reports that after UCLA paid IMG for their third tier rights to be transferred to the PAC12 network they netted $683,000 per year average over the last six years of network revenue.

Gross PAC12 Network payouts in 2018 were 2.6MM per school meanwhile paying 5.5MM per year in rent for the league's office space.

Fricking brilliant. God bless the SEC.

Boy they really botched that one up. Thank God we are in the SEC and didn't run over to the PAC with the transgendered bovines. Thank you bow tie, thank you Deloss, you conniving deceiver you!

yeah this has been a pretty poorly conceived network. They should have followed the BTN and SECN model and created one channel for the whole league with overflow to streaming for times where there's too much live content at one time. It's like they looked at LHN and thought the only reason it's a complete failure is because it only has one school but that two would make it work.

The first thing the Pac-12 needs to do is move their office out of SF to the East Bay or Phoenix and tell Larry Scott the Marriott Courtyard is where he needs to stay. I seriously doubt that the Chancellor of the University of California stays at $2500 a night suites, so why should Larry Scott.

If they have abandoned the idea of selling an equity stake in the networks to a media partner, then I assume there were no takers at a price the member schools liked. The lack of a carriage deal with a media partner is a killer not only from the past but continuing forward.

Cord cutting and streaming services, which they thought they were well-positioned for transition hasn't happened in the time frame they expected. Not even in the heart of Silicon Valley and Hollywood.

Although Kevin Weiberg was Scott's Man Friday during the set-up of the network structure, he left shortly thereafter. I can only assume he knew it would never work and he'd get the blame eventually anyway.

Thank God that Dodds and Nebraska blocked a Big XII network that Weiberg was pushing when he was Big XII Commish all those years ago. (Weiberg left and went to the B1G where he then set up their successful network. So he had the right business model for the time.)

The PAC ran around telling everyone they'd make a ton of money because they have access to great TV markets, but they didn't factor in they have a ****ty product and no one in those TV markets cares about PAC football.

Had they followed the business model of partnering with a media company for carriage rates back in 2010, they would have been much more successful revenue-wise.

They departed from the business model in place back then and fell flat on their faces.

Not so sure that the SEC and B1G would increase revenue under that model.

Good point. PAC 12 Network should ditch sports and start producing shows about coding, coffee and sweatshop factories.

TF does any of that have to do with football or athletic programming?

PAC 12 suffers from time zone carnage.

The East and Central time zones are prime time from 12 EST until 8 pm EST. Then it's party time.

A 7 pm PST kick off time is 10 pm EST.

PAC 12 killed itself....perfect for Texas and OU.

It means the Pac12 Network's choice of a dumb business model has nothing to do with being in "that part of the country". The Big12 chose a dumb tv network model, too.

If you're going to do it solo with that kind of fan support, it's a dumb business model

I agree. There is literally no evidence that that model would be preferable. The conspiracy theories out there that ESPN favors the SEC in coverage has some basis of truth. The SEC is basically the crown jewel of ESPN media rights and they behave accordingly. There is also zero evidence that conferences are capable of running a sports network better than ESPN.In fact there is plenty of evidence that they are poorly suited to doing it.
