Maryland beats tu x 2 and makes more money

Maryland's loan from the Big Ten in fiscal 2018 was just under $31 million. When added to its revenue share of $26.1 million, this means Maryland received more money from the Big Ten in 2018 than any school. But it also means Maryland has been loaned more than $66 million during its first four years in the conference, and its future revenue shares will be adjusted accordingly.

Seems dumb.

Each of the legacy 12 B1G schools got $54M
Maryland got $26.1M. Got a loan for $31M.
Rutgers got $11.7M. Got a loan for $14M

They become a full members in 2021.

This tells you how desperate it is at Rutgers:

Quote:

After the Fiscal Year 2016 report to the NCAA revealed Rutgers athletics had a $38.5 million shortfall in its $83.9 million budget that was made up by $27.2 million in support from the university's operating budget and $11.4 million in student fees,

That's good, but is it not counting the conferences share and deducting 25% of a members take to create the illusion that you're not just above the PAC in earnings even with just a 10 member split good?

Asking for a dumpster fire

Because Maryland and Rutgers doesn't get a full share, the office could get the same $54M, the 12 schools got.

Not knowing the details, it looks like it could have been 13 shares (12+1 for the league) and th 14th share split between Md & Rutg.

I get the buyouts, and the $$$$ they get, along with TCU and WVa, but treating them as partial shares just doesn't sit well with me.

Part of the reduced payouts is for the buy-in to the Big Ten Network. There was an asset with value. I never like the idea of Maryland and especially Rutgers to the Big 10. At least the Terps have been an asset. Rutgers has just not been competitive.
