Day 2 of the 2019 NFL Draft came and went Friday night in Nashville. If there's one big lesson to take away from the second and third rounds, it's that the SEC still has a firm grip on the talent pool for the league. Through three rounds, the SEC had 28 players drafted with the next-closest conference, the Big Ten, coming in at 16. Alabama still leads all teams (with Ohio State) with five selections while Mississippi State and Ole Miss are tied for second with four picks each.

Quote:

2019 NFL Draft by conference

  • SEC -- 28
  • Big Ten -- 16
  • ACC -- 12
  • Big 12 -- 11
  • Pac-12 -- 11
  • FCS/Division II/III -- 5
  • AAC -- 4
  • MAC -- 4
  • Independent -- 4
  • Conference USA -- 4
  • Mountain West -- 3

No question the SEC has the most football talent in America. Everyone knows the reason but it's politically incorrect to say it.

Why would it be "politically incorrect" to say that Universities with superior facilities and rabid fanbases attract better players?

No it isn't.

But it also highlights the difference in what it means to win in this league vs. the Big 12. Winning 9-10 games in the Big 12 is ****ing easy.

I have met most of the Big 12 and SEC coaches. The Big 12 cheats as much as anybody and i would not want my players any where near Herman! The SEC coaches can walk in and show the NFL draft numbers over the last decade, sold out large stadiums full of great fans, and have top notch coaches, weight rooms, etc. OU has the last two first picks, last two heisman winners and 8 draft picks this year but cannot win a playoff game. Why? No defense and the Big 12 does not prepare them for the physical nature of real football.

The irony of this is that it makes no sense to try and discount something due to "built in advantages" when the reality is that that's the reason most schools are good at a particular sport vs. those that aren't. Texas has a lot of built in advantages that, for example, Idaho, doesn't have when it comes to football at least. Same can be said for schools in warm weather across the country. In most cases, schools are good because there are natural advantages (location, access to talent, etc.) that has absolutely nothing to do with the school's own doing.

Yeah, we "ran from competition". What a load of ***** I think it's more they're scared of competition - they've already stated it as much - "an easier path. blah, blah, blah".

Plus we rich AF now, so there's that.

The power and the mighty of the SEC on display year after year through the NFL draft. It's been a great move and experience being a part of the Best Conference in America. It's been good for the SEC and good for the Aggies.

Great move leaving the bdf for the SEC. Better competition and relationships, and a huge boost financially.

A&M left the Big XII.

A&M ran to competition. Texas ran off Arkansas, Colorado, Nebraska, A&M and Mizzou. Hope they enjoy Group of 7 status.

No he's not. The state of Texas has more football talent than anyone besides maybe Louisiana (based on quality, Texas beats out on quantity). Half of the Big 12 is either in Texas or recruits primarily Texas. The fact that they are tied with the PAC, and the "flagship" school of Texas had 1. That's just embarrassing.

By the way, A&M had 8 draft picks this year.
