Long story short they basically abandoned their house. They had about 100k of equity in it if not 150k, It sat abandoned for a few months and had a listing (kind of). Grass got over grown, it was left unlocked. A handful of people made offers on it where the sips could have walked away with a few 10's of thousands. They had cash offers to make them money on the house! They refused to sell for some dumb reason. But they also refused to sell it like normal people.
In the end, the bank took it and they got nothing but a default on their record. You can lead a man to 40 acres, but you can't teach him sheet. Dumb is dumb.
