Not exactly true. This was a software problem where the output was in the incorrect system of measurement, not a conversion problem. Lockheed simply didn't follow the contract specs. Had they actually done that, there wouldn't have been a problem.
That being said, how many other counties have even gotten anything TO Mars to lose? We can land just about anything anywhere and have a pretty damn good track record of doing so.
