"The move, which became effective May 11, means that the DIRECTV Now viewership for the Texas-themed sports network will be greatly diminished.

"The DIRECTV Now zip code local channel finder shows that the Longhorn Network is now available in Texas, but not in neighboring states such as Oklahoma and Arkansas, or apparently any other state in the nation."

Still seen in their narrow central Texas sliver though ....

If only they would pick up Root Sports, I'd jump onto DirecTV Now in a heartbeat.

It is their streaming and on-demand service. Since there's no demand, there's no point in putting this channel on that platform.

All sip sports has been out of sight and out of mind for me the last five years. Do not watch them at all. Looks like the same is happening for a lot of other sports viewers. No demand for the product thus no need to provide a platform to show them on.

It has never been available in Arkansas. There is no demand because there is no content. Any Texas fan would've set the DVR for that 2005 game you guys give them such a hard time about. What was the point for ever showing that a second time? LHN has to be the worst business decision in history.

I don't know if ESPN ever really believed LHN would profitable or if they recognized it as a loss leader (bribe) for preventing the nightmare (for them) scenario of Fox controlling all major college sports brands in the Western 2/3rds of the country

Either way it's still gratifying to see sips ego get deflated

Exactly!
LHN brought stability for ESPN .... they bought that stability on the cheap.

College football today revolves around the eastern half of the United States with the big10, SEC, and ACC. That won't change anytime soon. The big12 and PAC 12 will have to make the best with less. The west coast has too many pro football teams to contend with for the pac12. The big12 is located primarily in flyover country and doesn't have the viewers/tv sets to sustain it.

The prime time slots go to the east coast three and by the time the PAC 12 tees it up the east coast fans are out for the evening. Nothing worse than watching football that is not going to mean anything at the end of the year.
