A Top OU Freshman Named in Arrest Warrant for Armed Robbery

By Suzanne Halliburton

Austin American-Statesman

UPDATE: Oklahoma suspended Parrish Cobb Tuesday night after a Waco newspaper reported that the Sooner freshman cornerback was set to turn himself in on an armed robbery charge.
The OU statement to the media said: "We are aware of the matter and Mr. Cobb is suspended indefinitely from all athletics participation. The University will review the matter further, consistent with its student conduct process."

EARLIER: Parrish Cobb, a top Oklahoma freshman last fall, has been named in an arrest warrant identifying him as a suspect in an armed robbery that occurred earlier this month near Waco.
The Waco Tribune Herald reported the news Tuesday night, saying that Cobb's lawyer said his client plans to turn himself into police, Wednesday. Police believe Cobb could be linked to three robberies.

Cobb is a former star of La Vega High School outside of Waco. A four-star prospect, Cobb originally signed with Baylor, but was allowed out of his letter of intent when coach Art Briles was fired in late May. His father was so intent on having his son switch schools that he showed up at McLane Stadium to talk to Baylor officials following a press conference to introduce interim coach Jim Grobe.

The newspaper said that Bellmead police were called to a convenience store on Jan. 10th after a Longview man said he was robbed at gunpoint. The man told police he was approached by a passenger in a dark colored vehicle. He said the man pulled a gun and robbed him.

The Tribune Herald also reported there were two other similar robberies in the Waco area. One also happened Jan. 10. A man told Waco police that a passenger in a dark-colored sports car approached him. He said the man had a gun and robbed him of his wallet. On Jan. 7, Baylor police reported that a man was robbed at gun point on campus.

An unidentified source told the Tribune Herald that police have searched a red Dodge Challenger registered to a member of Cobb's family. The car had an OU parking pass.

Cobb started two games last September before straining his hamstring.

He should have stayed at Baylor. They would have made sure those armed robberies were swept under the rugs.

In jail, he'll be served corn in the Cobb.

Baylor would have blamed the customers for being at convenient stores that sell beer at night with other guys.

So does ou suspend him for the whole offseason? Or just part of it?

His future as a "great kid that made a bad decision" all comes down to whether a video is readily available.

Just the natural progression from felon to all conference football player at OU. Nothing to see here.

Red Challenger registered to another member of his family but with OU parking pass? Sounds like a free car from OU or an OU alumnus to me.

Bob Stoops has gotten ahead of this and said that the punishment should fit the crime. He will have to study an extra hour the whole offseason.

Stoops is going to be harsh and make him sit out a year.

Other schools refer to this punishment as 'red shirting'

For mixon, stoops's explanation for public cries of his punishment not fitting the crime was that domestic violence is shown in a worse light than it was when mixon punched that girl.

Let's see what stoops's excuse will be this time.

I'm betting how well Cobb fits into the game plan will have the most bearing on how harsh the punishment is.

The convenience store they robbed the guy at was right across from LaVega High School....where Cobb starred in football.

Pretty sure the "victim" hurled a racist slur at the car beforehand.

Aggravated robbery was not a big deal in 2016 as it is in 2017
