I'm building a small residence (bottom level all garage & top level a 1 BR with kitchen/bathroom, and living area). Approx 1000 sq ft footprint. Neighborhood requires a PE stamp on foundation design. Looking for recommendations for someone that does this kind of work - preferably an Aggie. Huntsville-New Waverly area.

Who designed your foundation?

Sorry if I wasn't clear. The foundation hasn't been designed . I'm looking for someone to design it and put their PE stamp on the design.

POA has to approve everything before I get a permit to build. We just got started on the architectural drawings yesterday so there's plenty of time. It's probably a one or 2 day job at most for foundation design and drawings . Might even be able to pull an existing design off the drawing rack

My degree is in Civil Engineering and I could do the design myself but I spent 44 yrs in the oil & gas industry and never needed a PE license so I can't stamp it. Having said that , someone that does this on the regular would probably do a lot more efficient design than I can, would be way more up to speed on modern design methods .

There's any number of engineering firms that could do this job but I feel like I could save quite a bit ($500-1000) finding someone that's a small shop that does this kind of work regularly.

Most of the firms will want a geotech report to design from. Those that don't may just build a rocket pad that will cost you lots more in concrete and reinforcing. It might not make a big difference in the cost on a 1k sqft but it is something to be aware of. I used to work for MLAW(over 6 years ago) and they will want a geotech report for the project before they will design.
