Idea for "ugly" windows

I bought an older house, which has windows facing the neighbors brick walls, etc - my guess is they date back to when they would be needed for ventilation. (It's from 1937)

I'm thinking about framing a piece of frosted glass, with a mirror tint on the smooth side, and hanging it over the window, with the mirror on the inside.

That way, some daylight could still come in through the window, but, at night, it would act as a mirror, and brighten the room, rather than be dark/have to put drapes over it, etc.

Anyone try this? Any ideas?

My opinion: lose the mirror idea and hire a window replacement company to replace glass with frosted glass. Glass replacement in old windows is common and not that big of a deal. Film is another option but probably won't install great on old windows and can yellow out over time.

Home Improvement forum will have great ideas if you post a photo.
