I heard thru the rumor mill that a house in a neighborhood I really like may be going on the market. Is it inappropriate to knock on the door and ask and if interested, take a tour of the house?

What would be the right approach?

Must be a really old saying. No clue what the rest of that quote is.

I think I read on here before that someone wrote letters to every house in the neighborhood...just takes one.

It hasn't been that long ago that such phrases, and much worse, were acceptable. Explains a lot doesn't it?

I purchased my current house that way. Really liked a neighborhood and made a list of houses we would potentially be interested in / price range. First house we knocked on "yes, we were actually thinking about selling in a month." Loved it, worked out a deal outside realtors. Everybody won. Later in the deal, sellers gave us a 4 hour tour showing us how everything works. Couldn't be happier.
