that's a good idea. If anything, hire a landscape architect to design it for you (this plant goes here, this goes there).

Find a nursery you like with good stuff. Rent a trailer to buy mulch/topsoil by the yard. Go to the local Home Depot and put out 3 fingers on a saturday morning and get to work.
