The house I lived in when I was a toddler had that 70s thick shag carpet that was various shades of dark brown and orange...and it was everywhere, including the bathrooms. Disgusting.

I thought carpeted bathrooms and elevated tubs were extinct! What you have the opportunity to buy right there is a genuine time capsule to the early 1980s.

I live in The Woodlands, and it's actually really common to see carpet in the bathrooms in the houses that were built here in the late 70s, 80s, and even into the 90s. The decor isn't as garish as that pic (it's rare to see an elevated tub), but carpet in the bathroom is disgusting in any circumstances.

When I was looking a few years ago, I screened everything on the HAR first. I wouldn't even go look at a house with carpet in the bathroom. Quite a few houses dropped off my list based on that criteria alone. My neighbors, who were looking about the same time, even saw a house with carpet in the kitchen!

Finally looked at this post & sorry I missed out for so long. I used to have a folder of heinous mls photos from back when we were house shopping several years ago. I would keep them to show the other Schwack. I had lots of odd ones - the shotgun leaning against the fireplace, several with old men in chairs watching TV, countless unmade beds & medicines on the bathroom counter. Oh - above the shotgun was a melted scull candle with wax dripping down the front of the mantle. I'll see if I can find it.

Before you ask - we were looking for an old farmhouse on acreage. These were all rural properties. Not dumps, but not city livin' either.

400k for a house with carpet in the bathroom that hasn't been updated.

Yep, that's typical up here, especially for one-story houses of that size (they are already in fairly limited supply vs. 2-story, 3000+ sq ft homes). I can't tell you how unbelievably frustrating my house search was. I eventually went with new construction, but had to go into Harris Co. to get it.

Somehow I always unknowingly end up with some inappropriate emoticon when I type in my phone...

Haha! Yeah I had issues finding a smaller 1 story that didn't need massive upgrades in Tomball for a price I could afford.

I thought you'd like the kitchen. But that master bathroom (including that shower) is quite a collection of finishes!

And the red kitchen again! I had no idea doing your kitchen in fire engine red was a thing till this thread.

Combined with the Granny Smith Apple green color it's interesting for sure.

My thoughts exactly... WTF? I didn't like the basic 1990s look then, still don't like it now.

The kitchen in the other one had to have been done a while back unless the owners are BSC. It'd take a little bit to do that in the first place but to do it now is doubly so. They probably spent a lot on whatever they did, but it's a lot of what I think was someone looking at individual bits and pieces thinking they looked great without putting them all first to make sure it makes any sense. Should've hired an interior designer.

$625K after the price drop

It's a really lousy flip. Cabinets, countertops and flooring make no sense and they tried to put it on the market before they were done. Most pictures have tools and materials everywhere and everything is the cheapest of the cheap.

Good luck replacing the refrigerator.

Buyers are pretty dumb because of the bubble. I wish I had pictures from a place some friends bought nearby that was done by a different flipper. They made an offer while work was being done and they closed before things like backsplash tile were complete - bet you can't guess what didn't get done...

It's all around bad. None of the can lights in the ceiling are even close to straight with each other, the sub-builder grade bathroom vent fan runs through 25' of 3" flex duct and there's no waterproofing in the shower whatsoever. That's what I remember offhand anyway, they're looking at $10K in repairs to things that were done poorly during the flip 2 years ago.

We've been seeing a bunch of half ass renovations lately that look to be attempted flips and the flippers either ran out of money or interest halfway through. We've seen several renovated Heights bungalows that have "updated" kitchens that are just the original layout with new tile, and slapped together second stories with uneven flooring, unfinished counters, and layouts that clearly were done with no thought. One place had an upstairs game room/bedroom that had a sink in the middle of the wall. Not a wet bar. A bathroom sink. The realtor said "that's so you don't have to come downstairs to get a drink of water!"

This is in my hood. Maybe it's just me...but I find photo comments like these to be extremely annoying. Do people think that this kind of stuff actually helps sell the home? Besides being annoying, it makes me think the construction was on the cheap/shoddy... Just not very professional, imo.

Annoying and dumb. They also have grammar mistakes:

Oh, I don't know MAS444.... after awakening from my peaceful, comfortable sleep & whilst sipping my morning cup of java, your post beckoned me to imagine my movie star/queen of sheba self in such a charming abode along with my loved one awaiting throngs of "trick a treating" children on my front porch. Joyful tears sums it up perfectly.

I like when they started running out of words & got to "another spacious room to enjoy".

Garland....yes, the grammar, too... Another pet peeve of mine. My grammar may suck but if I'm publishing something like that, I think I'd have someone proof read it.

There are lots of cheap builds and flips in my neighborhood...and that kind of stuff makes me think this is just another one. By contrast, here's another recent listing right down the street.

The more professional listing makes me think it's a higher quality home. Even if it isn't...
TXTransplant
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Sorry, but no listing should describe feeling "wild and free" in the shower.

I saw one the other day that described the master shower, as, and I quote [sic] "The master bath is a womans dream. So ready for that opportunity to please her."

The second pic of the bath says "Of course the master bath invites the husband to enjoy having plenty of room to move around." Those two descriptors together are just too much! Quite a few of the other comments are, um...interesting, too.

Depending on how "active" you are when you cook, brick can be a terrible backsplash choice. Ours would already have embedded yellow from curry and red from tomato.

The captions are pretty bad all around, it's like things on Ali Express where the text is badly translated from Chinese.

What does that even mean, and WTF is Creole inspired? I thought Louisiana was mostly trailers.

quote:
Plenty of space for mom and dad to come and spoil the grandkids.
This is a caption for a bedroom. Grandkids should be spoiled in some other room.

The laundry room also has the smallest, strangest sink I've ever seen put in to one of those before. Aren't they supposed to be big and deep?

The thing that bothers me most is there is no flow to the pictures.

Couple outside shots, then to the bathroom, back to the entrance, on to random rooms, then the kitchen.

Incredibly hard to get any idea of the actual layout.

You all will enjoy this listing. Especially the 8th picture which appears to have dirty socks on the floor in the middle of the room.
