Does such a thing exist? Id love to look at a city and see a heat map of sorts for property values. Figured price per square foot would be a fairly gettable and representative figure for such a map.

Would be great...but I doubt realtor association would ever let that get out. Great idea, though.

Well, we could write an algorithm to harvest the appraisal data off HCAD and feed that into a custom mapping application. Would just need some time and money to do it.

Not as familiar with HAR's setup, but I feel like you could do the same with their listing values. That would at a minimum allow us to toggle back and forth between appraised value heat map and listing value heat map, plus do some interesting analytics in comparing the two.

Essentially this is just a feature that HAR and Zillow need to implement.

So far my experience with Zillow is pure CRAP. Their listings are very very old. Their price estimates are at least 50% off on the properties I know the value of. I deleted the ap.

The above map comes from RPR, which can be accessed by Realtors. It's a gross property value estimate map for single family homes based on tax data and MLS sales in the past year. It's not a per square foot price estimate, but should give a general idea of high value areas.

I hear ya. I'm thankful we have HAR, especially when I compare the tools we have with those in other markets.

The Houston Chronicle does this for the Houston area at least once a year. It is interesting to see the trends but it's exactly what you'd expect in terms of growth of suburbs and nice parts of the inner loop.
