The key play for me was with 1:45 left in the 3rd quarter and Kindred got the rebound on a missed free throw and the ball bounced off her foot out of bounds. Auburn then tied the game with a 3-pointer from the corner on the inbounds play.
Was that emblematic or symptomatic???

According to Flightaware the team arrived back at 1:23 this morning after leaving from Columbus Georgia and stopping in Tallahassee for an hour.

Emblematic of the game, but symptomatic of the season? IDK, but Mull is correct; we just were not focused the entire game. In that instance, there was literally not a soul around Eriny when that happened. She came down with the ball uncontested, everyone else retreated and she brought it down and bounced it off her foot out of bounds. I saw a lot of hanging shoulders and frustrated/confused faces in this game. They almost seemed resigned. We would make a run and it was typically immediately answered by Auburn just blasting through the lane like a bat out of hell. IDK what the solutions are (edited to say that I'm glad it's not my job to figure it out). We desperately need work at the free throw line; if you want to play max minutes at this level you have to be consistent and reliable at the free throw line. Hitting one of two, or missing the front end of a 1 and 1 just isn't acceptable. That has to be an area of focus. And, listen, it doesn't matter that you hit 35 in a row at practice. If it doesn't translate in a game then it doesn't matter. Lots of room for growth and I think we have to add some handles that can break a press without a lot of help. There were times our 4s and 5s were having to dribble the ball up the court.

One more edit: 30 turnovers for a game is embarrassing. That, to me, is the biggest sin of them all. MANY of the turnovers were self inflicted; just lazy errant passes and passing to spaces we didn't have athletes.

I think the excessive turnovers is why lots of people won't come watch a WBB game--but 30 turnovers is ridiculous and directly relates to discipline which relates to coaching IMO. I support JT and the team but I don't understand why we turn the ball over so many times per game. .

I listened to the game (well 95%) and our announcers (Steve Miller & Katie Lee) were amazed at the fouls called by the official on the other side of the court from where the 'foul' happened. Also, they seemed to think the refs were calling every little touch - and felt some were definitely NOT fouls.

Coach Taylor was exasperated. Just utter frustration. Her face said it all. Auburn did place a lot of pressure on our guards, but what I watched in the first half wasn't basketball. It was street ball. Neither team had any control over the game. We threw the ball away or turned it over so much there was no offense. TBH, they did, too, but not quite at the rate we did. Auburn missed so many free throws which is an issue for them as well. Difference is, they made their free throws the last 5 minutes of the game which kept them out front, and we did not.

My instinct is when I see trash ball to reiterate starting with fundamentals including details like pointing thumbs to complete passes with good follow through. It is a reset and that's what might help. But I believe. Coach knows what to do and will do it.

Young and inexperienced teams give games away, when crunch time came we couldn't hit free throws or shots. It's no coincidence that only players to make FGs in the last five minutes were Joni recruits. The transition defense was horrible in the 2nd half. I'll be the first to say it Janiah is a lazy defender.

I think the last quarter of the game is hard to judge on defense. We were trying not to foul and in so doing we just allowed them to get about 8 offensive rebounds in a row. There is some disconnect with the team that we didn't see when they played LSU. We may be seeing some athletes starting to be upset about playing time. This is a stark difference between the men's and women's teams right now. Buzz's team seems to be content in their roles (I may be completely off about this), but his 8-9 man rotation does not change much now and when the non-starters get playing time they are conditioned to give it all they've got. We look lost when we sub in at times. This game was a culmination of a lot of bad habits, and coach Taylor has said it more than once. At some point it's time to stop making the same mistakes over and over and I would anticipate this will affect next years team (who stays and who transfers); especially with more of Coach Taylor's recruits coming in.

Thought we had a team after LSU!

No more! The players returning from injuries have fissled out.

Gosh. Idk if I'd go that far. I think what we saw in the last game was poor team play. Individually very talented but they just have not figured out their roles and how to play as a unit. Defensively we are constantly out of position and we are being punished for that with the constant ticky-tack fouls. I think I see flashes of an offense. Hylton driving and dishing (or finishing) or finding Bowles at the rim with a one armed pass, but we cannot consistently get the ball in to our bigs bc of poor entry passes. I think saharah got caught picking up her dribble too much late in the 3rd and 4th and auburn just smothered her when she did. I just keep going back to free throws and defense. If both are poor, it's going to be a long season. Those two things are what the men's basketball team is doing infinitely better than the women's team right now.
