I don't normally watch the league since Bart joined, but I'll try to stay awake tonight.

WNBA playoff format is unusual for pro sports.

Elonu has played 1 min so far in the penultimate game of the regular season. Her team has a bye and won't play until Sunday.

Colson got a DNP in Tuesday's loss to the Sparks, which eliminated MN from the playoffs.

Bracket is here:

The WNBA appears as a big "wannabe" that began with an optimistic flourish and has declined steadily in fan interest and profitability. IMO it has become only a platform for whatever social justice complaints are on the menu of minority discontent. Moreover, the Lesbian sexuality issue, with the encouragement of the leftist media (see Sue Bird naked with her soccer girlfriend on cover of ESPN magazine). is openly paraded before the declining number of fans who still attend the games The game is overshadowed by the noise surrounding it.

Maybe they would generate greater interest with more tattoos, cruder language, physical cheap shots on the court, and criminal charges off the court. Or, maybe not.

The natural comparative benchmark is the NBA, and the differences in physicality and talent will forevermore relegate the WNBA to a pee-wee league status that people won't pay good money to watch.

It was designed to suck out whatever oxygen was left in the American Basketball League before it got more traction. But the ABL folded quickly in part due to issues like these:

"Some of the ABL's problems were of its own making. The league operated as a single-entity structure, which was intended to control costs until it found its feet. However, it also meant that even the most basic decisions related to team operations had to go through the league office in Palo Alto, California. League officials were so fixated on national sponsorships that they hamstrung the teams' efforts to market themselves locally. The ABL was also underfinanced. According to Condors general manager Allison Hodges, she was on her way to a press conference announcing her team's name when the league office called to say the season was canceled. Minutes later, the office called back to say the season was on again. Hodges and the other general managers only found out about the league's shutdown when they were in the middle of their weekly conference call, though she suspected league officials had decided to pull up stakes long before then.[4]"
