Minnesota Lynx Sign Guard Sydney Colson

MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL The Minnesota Lynx today announced the team has signed guard Sydney Colson for the remainder of the season. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Colson, a four-year WNBA player, was selected in the second round (16th overall) of the 2011 WNBA Draft by the Connecticut Sun, where she was then traded to the New York Liberty on April 11, 2011. The 5-8, Texas native, played one season with the Liberty before playing overseas and eventually signing with the San Antonio Stars on May 14, 2015 where she remained through the 2017 season.

In 2011, she played in 16 games as a rookie for New York, averaging 1.4 points, 0.6 assists, 0.4 rebounds and 0.2 steals in 5.4 minutes. In her best WNBA season in 2016, Colson averaged 5.1 points, 2.6 assists, and 1.12 steals in 34 games, while ranking second on the team in steals (38) and assists (87).

Colson then served as an assistant coach at Rice University from 2015-17, where she contributed to the Owls winning their first-ever postseason title (2017 WBI Championship).

Internationally, she played for Matizol Lider Pruszkow (Poland) for the 2011-12 and 2012-13 seasons. Helping the team advance to the 2013 Polish Cup Semifinals by averaging 9.5 points, 4.6 assists, 2.7 rebounds and 2.3 steals in 28.0 minutes. In her first season with Matuzol Lider Pruszkow, Colson averaged 9.7 points, 4.1 assists, 2.5 rebounds and 1.3 steals in 25.1 minutes.

Prior to the WNBA, Colson played collegiately at Texas A&M where she recorded three-consecutive 100+ assist seasons and ranked in the top five nationally with 6.4 apg. She finished her collegiate career with 853 points, 504 assists and 255 steals over 138 games. She ranks fifth all-time in the program's history in career assists and fourth in career steals.
