This is hard to watch. One of the worst defenses I've seen. Notre Dame does nothing great except shoot the ball on open shots.
First of all, especially under this athletic director, an outgoing coach doesn't choose his successor.czar_iv said:

Secondly, for those hoping for the return of Messiah Vic, I wouldn't hold my breath. I don't think he's going to be any part of a palace coup to replace his old master, and I think he likes 8,000 - 9,000 crowds in Starkville. He also likes an MSU mission office that will admit anybody who is NCAA eligible.
Finally, I don't see Gary as being ready to retire voluntarily any time soon. Consult my thread of today: The incoming transfers and injury-redshirted talent waiting in the wings is pretty good. We may have a monster team next year.
"resent" instead of "recent" - a Freudian slip?yarddog8 said:
Gary said at a resent clinic that this years defense was the best ever. Delusional
11-20 free throws vs 6-8 = loss ! Was that lack of defense ?Houstonag said:
A little disappointing to watch. We had them then lost our poise, not good d especially on threes. Wide open. Stop the the threes and we win.
I will leave it to the Blair defenders or was it the players? This game was winnable.
I think it's entirely debatable at best whether A&M is terrible. I don't think we're great, but terrible is way too strong, IMO. It's very TexAgs though. No gray area. This advanced stats site has us as pretty decent.HiddenAg2 said:
A&M is a terrible defensive team. It's not debatable. And until Blair hires a real defensive coach again, this will only continue. The lack of fundamentals was shockingly bad throughout most of this season. Vic would lose his mind if he were coaching this team, but he would also turn it around quickly on the defensive end.
The FGA differential you're talking about is an interesting idea, but I'm not sure what it measures. Seems like it's a combination of D and rebounding. That said, there's a clear difference between before and after Vic, and Miss State is more like what he did here:JR69 said:
I haven't paid as much attention to stats the last few years as I once did, but one statistic that I always checked was the number of shots taken by opponents. The Aggies, during the hey day of defense, usually got 10-12 more shots per game than their opponents. That's 8 or more points per game. Great defense made it difficult for opponents to get any shot, much less good shots. Obviously fewer shots taken generally means fewer points.
This team gave up over 68 points per game this season. The 2011 National Champion team gave up 57.2 ppg.
