Texas A&M women's basketball announced the addition of UTEP transfer Lulu McKinney to the roster Wednesday. McKinney, who started all 31 games at point guard for the Miners as a junior, will play her final season of college basketball at Texas A&M.

"Lulu is a veteran point guard, that gives us the depth that we want," said Texas A&M head coach Gary Blair. "With Chennedy Carter, an incoming freshman All-American, to combine with Lulu, we now have a great pair of point guards that complement each other. We think we hit a home run with someone who can run our ballclub at the point guard position and mentor young players."

"Lulu is a very good defensive player, and a team-first player who can score," added Blair. "We feel very fortunate to add someone who comes from a family of coaches like the McKinney family. She will be the ultimate team player."

McKinney averaged 7.0 points and 4.9 assists per game for UTEP in 2016-17, ranking fifth in C-USA in assists per game and sixth in the league with a 1.70 assist-to-turnover ratio. She also led the Miners with 31.7 minutes per game and 42 3-pointers made. She had nine games with 10+ points and five games with at least nine assists.

McKinney complied 308 assists in three years in El Paso, which ranks sixth on UTEP's career list. Her 151 assists in 2016-17 ranks third on the Miners' single-season list and her 12 assists at Southern Miss (Feb. 9, 2017) tie for third-most in a single game at UTEP. She was a two-time member of the C-USA Commissioner's Honor Roll, earning those honors in 2015 and 2017.

McKinney averaged 6.3 points as a sophomore, helping UTEP to a 29-5 record and a Conference USA regular season title in 2015-16. She averaged 8.1 points as a freshman, earning C-USA Freshman of the Week three times and earning a spot on the C-USA All-Freshman Team.

A clutch shooter, McKinney notably sunk a 3-pointer in the final minute to give UTEP a rivalry win over New Mexico State in 2015-16, and made back-to-back 3-pointers in double overtime against Charlotte to clinch the 2016 C-USA regular season title.

A three-star recruit out of high school, McKinney earned District 14-5A MVP honors at A&M Consolidated High School in College Station. She played three years at Houston Bellaire, earning All-District accolades each year.

McKinney is the daughter of Texas A&M football assistant Clarence McKinney and Jakmica McKinney. She will be the second A&M Consolidated alumna to play for Texas A&M under Gary Blair, joining Karla Gilbert (2010-14).

Graduated from UTEP so she will play right away, but only for one year, IIRC.
